“Hou” Did That Get There?

A few of you might be wondering why there is a “Hou” on your ring. We assure you that this is not a case of a mistaken engraving or of sending you the wrong piece; all of our pieces are brand new and not engraved. The “Hou” is the trademark stamp of the company that manufactures the ring, much like the name “Coca-Cola” appears on every can of Coke that the Coca-Cola Company produces. Trademark stamps have been around for many years, and they often help antique dealers identify and appraise old pieces of jewelry. Think of the “Hou” as a birthmark of sorts, an identifying factor that will help you distinguish your ring from others that may be similar to it. If you decide that you are unhappy with the ring for any reason, simply write “return for refund” on your packing slip (the piece of paper inside your package) and send everything that came inside the package (item, packing slip, and appraisal card) to:

SJ*
20 East 46th St.
Suite 1201A
New York, NY 10017

*Please write “SJ” instead of “SuperJeweler.com” to reduce the risk of unwanted tampering with or theft of your package.

Feel free to call Customer Service at 1-877-888-0175 if you have any questions, “Hou”-related or otherwise.

Why We Are Thinking Pink

We’ve already talked a bit about how SuperJeweler.com is donating 20% of the sales on our pink jewelry to Susan G. Komen For The Cure. Many other organizations are doing in this for their own special reasons. Today I am going to talk about why we are doing this.

Her name was Betty Jean. She was a mother of three. Grandmother of five, including me. She was born right before The Great Depression. As one of eight mouths to feed, she and her seven brothers and sisters spent most of their childhoods very poor and often hungry. In fact, until she died, she still saved bacon grease in Folgers cans…a carry over from Depression-era conservation.

Pink JewelryWhat she lacked in wealth, she made up for in sheer determination and values. One of her sage bits of advice was, “When your motivation is love, your actions are always meaningful.” Perhaps it was the love for her children and their need to have a father that led to her staying in an abusive relationship with a grandfather I never knew. A grandfather who could never hold a job, but always found money for alcohol. A grandfather who often hit her, and her children. And perhaps it was love that got up her nerve to divorce him in the early ’60s, figuring, finally, that no father is better than a bad father.

As a single mother providing for her three children, she worked 55-60 hour weeks on a Detroit assembly line. She was not assembling cars, but circuit boards for early computers. She worked in that factory for nearly 35 years – a feat that is almost unheard of in today’s workforce.

Through all of this, however, she always found time for her kids and, later, her grandkids. Getting them to stadiums to see their sports heroes play. Teaching tolerance in one of America’s most segregated cities, so that we would grow up prepared for an America of the future, not an America of the past. She sang lullabies, kissed boo-boos, wiped away tears, and lived for it, then served up homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Every thing I have learned about strength and perseverance, I have learned from her: Betty Jean.

On January 10, 2008, she lost her battle with cancer. I spoke to her that day. In between short breaths, her last words to me were: “Always be good.”

While the details of this story may be unique to me, many of you have your own Betty Jean. She is your mother, your grandmother, your aunt, or your sister. She is a beacon of hope in a sometimes dark world. And she is the one person you can count on for strength, when you think you have none left.

In 2008, more than 182,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed. It will be diagnosed in the people we love. It will be diagnosed in the people whom we feel can overcome anything. And, many times, this cancer will be the one obstacle they won’t be able to overcome.

Susan G. Komen For The Cure is dedicated to finding ways to prevent and cure breast cancer so that your Betty Jean will be there for you and your kids for many more years to come.

At SuperJeweler.com, our reasons for helping are personal. So, I ask you, if you are looking to purchase a piece of jewelry this month, please think pink. And together, maybe we can all help find a cure for breast cancer.

RMAs and Many Happy Returns

An RMA, or Return Merchandise Authorization, is a transaction in which the customer arranges to return a product for repair, exchange or refund. You do NOT need an RMA number when returning items to SuperJeweler.com. Learn how to return an item for a refund, repair, or an exchange!

Do I need an RMA number to return, repair, or exchange my order?

Nope. To return an item for a refund, repair, or an exchange simply follow these steps:

  1. Write on a copy of your packing slip (the piece of paper that came inside your package) a brief explanation of why you are returning the item to us. If an item is the wrong style or size, write the style or size that you would like.
  2. Put everything that was in the original package (item, appraisal card, copy of your packing slip) either back into the original packaging or a new package.
  3. Send it to this address: SJ*, 20 East 46th St., Suite 1201A, New York, NY 10017

*Please do NOT write SuperJeweler.com on your package. Instead write “SJ” so that your package will be safe from tampering or theft. Also, it is a good idea to insure your package when returning it.

What is an RMA number?
An RMA, or Return Merchandise Authorization, is a transaction in which the customer arranges to return a product for repair, exchange or refund. The customer calls the Customer Service Department and is issued an RMA number, which is written on the return packaging. This number helps the Shipping Department know how to route the package when they receive it. As mentioned above, you do NOT need an RMA number when returning items to SuperJeweler.com.

How Your Order Gets To You

One of the most frequent questions we get at SuperJeweler.com is: How long will it take my order to get to me? Today, we are going to talk about the exact steps your order goes through to reach you. This will help you gauge how long it will take for your order to arrive.

Step 1: Your order goes into our order database.

Once your payment is approved, it is stored in our database. (Note: If you choose to use the Google checkout method, your payment may take up to 48 hours to be approved.) Every day, our Processing Department goes through the order database until 3 p.m. (EST) and delivers orders to our Production Department.

Step 2: The Production Department gets your item ready for shipping.

Diamond RingsAt SuperJeweler.com, we have more than 27,000 pieces in stock! This means that most of the items you see on our site are ready to be shipped the day your order is received. Some items, like diamond rings, however, require special attention and, yes, more processing time. In some cases, it may take up to three days to get a ring sized. We provide jewelry to shoppers all over the world, and our Production Department is meticulous in its approach to provide the highest quality item possible. To be safe, we suggest you allow up to three days for processing time no matter which item you’re ordering.

A Handy Tip: When you click the blue "Buy" button on the item page, you’ll be taken to a page that has information about your product. (This same information also shows up on the receipt you are e-mailed.) One of the columns is labeled "Ships in" and this column let you know how quickly we are able to ship your item.

Step 3: Your item goes through a rigorous quality control inspection.

We have very high standards for quality at SuperJeweler.com. Our Quality Control department looks at each and every piece of jewelry for approval before passing it to the Shipping Department.

Step 4: Your order is packaged and shipped.

Our Shipping Department works long and hard to ensure we ship as many orders as possible each a day. (And trust us, some days it’s a heck of a lot of orders!) A tracking number is assigned to every package we send, and this number is e-mailed to you as soon as your item is shipped. Our Customer Service representatives are also happy to provide your tracking number, or even track your package for you! Depending on the shipping method you choose, your package should arrive according to the following schedule:

  • Overnight: up to 1 business day after processing
  • 2-Day Shipping: up to 2 business days after processing
  • 3-Day Shipping: up to 3 business days after processing
  • Free Shipping: 3-4 business days after processing

So there you have it: the path your order takes from the time your transaction is approved to the time it arrives at your door. If you have any questions about this post, your order, or anything at all, feel free to contact Customer Service at 1-877-888-0175 or click on the Live Help button on our website at SuperJeweler.com.

Finding The Right Jewelry

WHERE TO START?

Finding the perfect piece of jewelry for yourself or a loved one is no easy task, especially in the world of online shopping where there are literally millions of options. At SuperJeweler.com, we believe the best place to start is to simply sit down and ask yourself questions about the person for whom you want to buy jewelry. (Hopefully you have already decided on what type of jewelry you want to buy: ring, earrings, etc. If not, think of the occasion for which you are buying jewelry, or what type of jewelry that person has little of so you can help build their collection.)
Diamond Rings

  1. Ask yourself what their personality is like. Do they like to be the center of attention, or are they shy? Do they stick to the norm, or do they like to be adventurous and different?
  2. Take a look at their clothes. How dressy are they? Do they buy the look of the moment or do they get pieces they can wear over and over for years?

Believe it or not, these sorts of things can give you clues about the kind of jewelry a person wants. A person who wears jeans and a t-shirt on a daily basis is going to want different jewelry than someone who wears a business suit. Someone who aspires to be a Hollywood movie star is going to want more sparkle than someone who shies away from the spotlight. And people with more hands-on professions are going to need more durable jewelry than others.

WHERE TO GO

Once you’ve taken all this into account, browse SuperJeweler.com and see what pieces are the best fit with the person you were thinking of. If you need a recommendation, our Customer Service reps are here to help you from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and you can reach us by calling 1-888-877-0175 or by clicking on the blinking Live Help box on the upper right hand corner of our site. Good luck! We hope you find what you are looking for.

Shine On, You Crazy Diamond!

About two weeks ago, the London-based mining firm, Gem Diamonds, announced that it had unearthed a 478 carat diamond from its Letseng mine in Lesotho, South Africa! Incredibly, however, it’s only the 20th-largest ‘rough diamond’ on record.

Lesotho Diamond

What makes this particular diamond so noteworthy, in addition to its immense girth, is its remarkable clarity. In fact, it is reportedly so clear that there is talk of it becoming a 150 carat polished stone! At that size, it would dwarf the 105 carat round-cut Koh-i-Noor diamond that is part of the Crown Jewels.

Still, if you want the absolute biggest diamond on record, turn your calendar back to 1905 for the Cullinan Diamond. When this monster gem was recovered it was a whopping 3,106 carats! That diamond yielded at 530 carat teardrop diamond that is also known as The Great Star of Africa.

This is certainly newsworthy, especially to us, but if you are looking for a diamond that is a little more practical, we have plenty of those. Just check out our selection of diamond rings or our charming new selection of blue diamond jewelry; it’s hot for the holidays this year! While we may not have a 150 carat rock in there, we are pretty sure we have the perfect rock for you!
